Tolerance - noun - 1 The character, state, or quality of being tolerant. 2 Indulgence or forbearance in judging the opinions, customs, or acts of others; freedom from bigotry or from racial or religious prejudice. That definition was taken directly from The New International Webster's Comprehensive Diction of the English Language Encyclopedic Edition on page 1,320. However, most people take the meaning of "tolerance" the wrong way. Most people think of tolerance as a made-up word that forces people to be kind to others, even if they do not like them. They are mistaken. Tolerance means that you should not judge people by their religious beliefs, customs, or opinions, but judge them by their character and personality. They are people and should be treated like people; you should understand that they are a living person, too. Tolerance shows equality, racial and religious, and the understanding that people have the same rights as you do.
